Group Study: Dangerous Sisters of the Hebrew Bible
Wed / Begins Oct 21 / 9:30 am / Online
While fathers, sons and mothers take center stage in the biblical grand narratives, sisters and sisterhood receive limited attention in scholarship. However, in examining the solidarity among women, when they play to and against type, it becomes impossible to deny their vital role even in a patriarchal society. Using Amy Kalmanofsky’s Dangerous Sisters of the Hebrew Bible as our guide, we will explore how sisters are destabilizing figures in narratives where family crisis, property, patrimony, and the resilience of community boundaries are at risk. This class is student led, with different members taking the lead each week.
